US government agency is inspired by Animal Crossing to show effect of smoking

Although several companies will not go to gamescom 2022, Ubisoft confirms attendance

Nintendo decided to stop offering new content for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, but that does not take away from the merit of having been one of the most popular games of the pandemic. Despite no longer being popular as before, a government agency in the United States took advantage of it to deliver an important message about the risks of smoking.

Smoking continues to be one of the main vices among young people, which brings with it negative effects on the body, one of which is the anxiety caused by episodes of craving for nicotine, the cigarette compound that prevents smokers from quitting. .

In order to invite this population to quit smoking or avoid it completely, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) shared an animation that precisely shows the horror of the episodes of anxiety about smoking at times that otherwise should be quiet.

The FDA uses popularity of Animal Crossing to encourage young people to quit smoking

The interesting thing is that it shows this through the eyes of a character who seems to be one of the villagers of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, who cannot sleep because the nicotine monster prevents him through anxiety. As you can see below, although it is not explicitly expressed for obvious reasons, the FDA clearly uses the popularity and recognizability of the Nintendo series to communicate its message and it is very well achieved, since the style that was achieved in the animation is very similar to the Nintendo Switch game.

The animation was made by the Sawhorse Productions studio at the request of the FDA and was broadcast on platforms that the young population frequents, such as Twitch. Obviously, Nintendo isn’t involved in this, but the FDA shouldn’t have a problem with projecting these characters, since it doesn’t present the characters as their own or mention that it’s the IP. Animal Crossingbut generic characters, plus he is not profiting from this animation.

In case you missed it: player of Animal Crossing he lost his island after playing hundreds of hours.
