A US F-16 fighter jet crashed on Saturday in an agricultural area near the Osan airbase, south of Seoul, authorities have reported.
The device crashed at around 9:30 a.m. (2:30 a.m. in mainland Spain) in Pyeongtaek, about 60 kilometers from Seoul, and the pilot was able to carry out the ejection maneuver safely, according to the South Korean authorities, cited by the Yonhap News Agency.
The device has caught fire and has been practically destroyed after the incident, but there is no personal injury to be regretted. There were also no homes near the site.
The 51st Fighter Wing of the United States has reported that the accident occurred at 9:45 am near the Osan Air Base and has confirmed that the pilot has survived and is now in medical facilities.
The pilot was participating in a routine training exercise. An investigation has already been opened to clarify the causes of the incident.
