US attacks on pro-Iranian militias left eight dead, according to the Pentagon

March 31 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Pentagon press secretary Patryck S. Ryder reported Thursday at a press conference that US retaliatory strikes against pro-Iranian militias in northeastern Syria after the death of a contractor have resulted in only eight dead.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights organization, the figure rises to 19, including three Syrian soldiers and eleven Syrians who worked for pro-Iranian militias, affiliated with Damascus.

The attacks occurred against an Iranian ammunition warehouse in the Harabish neighborhood of the city of Deir Ezzor, against positions in the Al Mayadin and Al Bokamal regions.

“These precision attacks were carried out to protect and defend American personnel,” Ryder explained, adding that “we will take all necessary measures to defend our troops and our interests abroad.”

These incidents began last Thursday, when an attack by pro-Iranian militias left a contractor dead and six wounded, identified as five US service members and another contractor.

In response, US President Joe Biden ordered a series of bombings against facilities used by “affiliated groups” of the Revolutionary Guard.
