The US ambassador to Israel, Jack Lew, has expressed his concern about the “brazen drone attack” carried out tonight by Yemen’s Houthi rebels against the city of Tel Aviv, an incident that has left at least one dead and nearly a dozen injured.
Lew has expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased and has assured that the staff of the branch of the United States Embassy — close to the impact zone — are safe, according to a post by the diplomatic representative on his social networks.
The Israeli army said on Friday that the drone that crashed into a Tel Aviv building overnight was launched by the Houthis from Yemen and said the device was “an Iranian weapon” that had been modified to “extend its flight range.”
For his part, Houthi military operations spokesman Yahya Sari reported on his Telegram channel that the rebels have carried out a “quality operation” against Tel Aviv with a new drone called ‘Yafa’, which has been “capable of evading enemy interception systems and is undetectable by radars.”
