Upcoming Tender for Thailand Satellite Slot Packages

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission of Thailand (NBTC) will be held on January 15 the bidding for packages of orbital slots for satellites, to which three companies opt.

According to the NBTC, Space Tech Innovation Company, National Telecommunications Public Company and Prom Technical Services Company are the companies competing for the orbital slot packages.

Air Marshal Thanapant Raicharoen, a member of the NBTC, has revealed that the auction will use the sequential ascending clock auction, in which bidders place requested quantities against specified price steps in the bidding process. A mock auction will take place one day before the actual auction, which will take place on January 15.

Air Marshal Thanapant stated that the public interest is NBTC’s top priority in conducting the auction, as one of the terms of reference requires the winner to allow the Government to use a broadcast transponder and broadband channel. 400 Mbps data via satellite.

He also rejected the suggestion that the slot packages be awarded to National Telecommunications, stating that doing so would violate the Constitution regarding monopolistic business and risk repercussions from the International Telecommunications Union.

The NBTC ensures that the bidding will be transparent and free of any collusion.
