Upcoming Qualcomm Oryon CPU Architecture Will Replace Current Kryo Cores in Snapdragon SoCs



After years using their own Kryo Custom CPUs Based on the different ARM architectures, Qualcomm has announced at its Snapdragon Summit 22 that it will soon be replaced by its new Qualcomm Oryon CPUs.

The first Kryo CPU cores were released in 2015, more than 7 years ago, with the Snapdragon 820 in a big.LITTLE 4-core (2+2) configuration that has evolved to current models as the most recent Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with its 8 cores in 1+4+3 configuration.

The custom architecture of Oryon-CPU will be based on ARM and will be used in the entire range of Qualcomm SoCssince the 8cx for Windows laptops to XR for virtual reality and, naturally, Snapdragon 8 for high-performance smartphones. Oryon will also be present in network systems and driving assistance systems or digital multimedia systems for vehicles.

Therefore, it will be the architecture on which the vast majority of the company’s Snapdragon SoCs are based within its catalog and different applications.
