Universidad de Santiago is awarded 38 Fondecyt Regular projects, the highest number in the last 9 years

Communications Vridei.- A great result in the latest version of the Regular Fondecyt Contest was obtained by the University of Santiago de Chile, after awarding 38 research projects, which represents the highest figure in the last 9 years, achieving an approval rate of 34.5% of the total projects presented, higher than the 22.8% of the previous year.

“This result is a recognition of the work, trajectory and curriculum of our researchers, to whom I wish success and maximum productivity in the development of their projects. The proposals that each one of them presented in this call were very well evaluated, since they respond to the guidelines of interest of ANID and our university”, affirms Dr. Carolina Aliaga, director of Scientific and Technological Research of the Office of the Vice-Rector. Research, Development and Innovation.

He added that, “considering that it is a nationwide contest, in which all the universities of the Council of Rectors participate, having a 34.5% approval rate also implies that Our University is recognized as a leader in advanced scientific research.”

The Regular Fondecyt Contest of the National Agency for Research and Development (ANID) aims to promote scientific-technological research in various areas of knowledge, by financing individual research projects of excellence oriented to the production of knowledge. or applications foreseen through explicit working hypotheses.

The projects are selected taking into account their intrinsic quality and the merit of the applicants, without distinction of areas, gender or institutional origin.

In this way, various faculties of our University were awarded Regular Fondecyt projects: 9 for Humanities, 13 for Chemistry and Biology, 1 for Law, 3 for Engineering, 3 for Technology, 5 for Sciences, and 4 of an interdisciplinary nature, that is, initiatives in involving various faculties.

The awarded projects cover topics such as astronomy and astrophysics; biology, legal and political sciences; Earth sciences; school and higher education; theoretical and experimental physics, gravitation and discharge physics; history; engineering; linguistics; literature; math; medicine; chemistry and sociology.

The investigations will last between 3 and 4 years and during their execution “researchers will be able to count on the full support of Dicyt in the management and installation of capacities for the execution and successful completion of the various research initiatives” , affirmed Dr. Carolina Aliaga.
