Academics from the Austral University of Chile awarded seven projects in the recent IDeA I+D contest of the National Research and Development Agency, ANID. Five of these initiatives were awarded in the Generic contest and two in the Thematic one, specifically in the line “Adaptation to climate change and natural disasters”.
“This is a very positive result”, said the Vice Chancellor for Research, Development and Artistic Creation (VIDCA) of the UACh, Dr. Mylthon Jiménez, “because it demonstrates the maturity of various lines of research and the constant search of our community academic for transferring the knowledge produced by first-rate scientific research”.
According to the contest website, IDeA R&D 2022 “has the purpose of supporting the co-financing of applied R&D projects with a strong scientific component so that they develop technologies that can become new products, processes or services, with a reasonable probability of generating productive, economic and social impacts”.
This year researchers from the UACh obtained funding to develop transfer initiatives to the salmon, tourism and conservation, timber industries, as well as for better land use, and fire risk management.
For the Director of Innovation and Development of the VIDCA-UACh, Dr. Germán Rehren, this result is achieved largely “thanks to the quality of the proposals, to a long process of transformation of our institution towards a culture of transfer via innovation and to a continuous improvement in the procedures to support applications.
Today we see palpable results and we hope that in the future we will maintain and increase this performance because the research we generate has territorial relevance and is an important contribution to the development of the country”.
