UNIFIL reiterates that Israel's attacks on the Lebanese Army violate international laws

MADRID 25 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has reiterated that the continued Israeli attacks against the Lebanese Armed Forces, which have left 45 soldiers dead in total, constitute “a flagrant violation” of UN Security Council resolution 1701. and International Law.

“The role of the Lebanese Armed Forces remains vital to the full implementation of resolution 1701 (2006), which is essential to ending the current violence between Hezbollah and Israel,” he said in a statement published on the social network .

Israeli attacks in Lebanon have caused “loss of personnel” as well as “damage to facilities and destruction of property.” “We remain deeply alarmed by the escalation of hostilities and the widespread destruction and loss of life along the Blue Line,” he added.

This comes hours after the Lebanese Army announced on Sunday that one soldier was killed and 18 others were wounded, including “some seriously,” as a result of an Israeli airstrike against a military position in the south of the country.

The attack occurred at the Al Amiriya base, on the road that links the towns of Qalila and Tire. More than 40 Lebanese soldiers have already died since the Israeli offensive against the Gaza Strip began in October 2023 and with the consequent immediate expansion of the conflict to Lebanon.
