Aug. 2 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon, UNIFIL, has declared itself unable to attribute responsibility for the missile attack that cost the lives of 12 young people last weekend in Majdal Shams, in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, as it is outside the mission’s area of operations, according to its spokesperson, Andrea Tenenti.
“UNIFIL is not in a position to hold any party responsible for the tragic incident in Majdal Shams,” said UNIFIL spokesperson Andrea Tenenti, responding to a report published by Sky News Arabia about a report by the peacekeeping force that pointed to Shiite militia Hezbollah as responsible for the attack.
“The town of Majdal Shams,” Tenenti added in a statement reported by the official Lebanese news agency, NNA, “is located outside the area of operations of the UNIFIL forces.”
The United States also agrees with Israel’s interpretation of what happened and claims that Hezbollah was behind the attack, but the militias of the Lebanese Shiite party attributed what happened to an Israeli anti-aircraft interceptor projectile.
