Unemployment rate rises in June, stands at 2.8%

In the sixth month of the year, the unemployed male population was 1,000,000 and the female population was 675,000.

The unemployment rate for men was 2.8% and for women 2.7%.

Inegi points out that 13.9% of the unemployed did not complete secondary school, while people with a higher level of education represented 86.1%.

By age, the 15 to 24 age group accounted for 32.2% of the unemployed, an increase of 0.7 percentage points. The 25 to 44 age group accounted for 44% of the unemployed population, which is 3.3 percentage points less than in the same month of 2023.

And those aged 45 to 64 accounted for 20.9%, a percentage 0.8 percentage points higher.

Regarding the population employed in informal employment, it was 31.7 million people and the rate of informal employment was 53.8% of the employed population, 1.6 percentage points lower than in June 2023.

Finally, in June 2024, the employed population was 58.9 million people, 97.2% of the EAP, with an annual growth of 273,000 people.

Services accounted for 25.8 million people; trade, 11.7 million; manufacturing, 9.9 million; agricultural activities, 6.2 million; and construction, 4.4 million.
