Unemployment rate drops to 2.9% in September

In September, Inegi detailed, 19.7% of the unemployed population looked for a job for more than three months, 32.6% remained unemployed for more than one month and up to three months, and 41.6% looked for work for up to one month.

The underemployment rate, that is, people who say they are available to work more hours than they currently do, was 8.2%; 4.9 million people.

Men and women

Of the 59.4 million people employed during September, 34.9 million were men – 178,000 less than in the same month of 2023 -, and 24.5 million were women, a figure 513,000 higher than a year ago, reported Inegi.

The unemployed population was divided as follows: one million were men and 759,000 were women.

As far as underemployment is concerned, 3 million men and 1.9 million women were willing to work more hours.

Informality

In September, 32.2 million people worked informally, that is, 54.2% of the economically active population, a decrease of 0.1% compared to the same month last year.

By sex, 53.3% of men worked in the informed sector, while the percentage of women in the informal sector was 55.5%.
