On February 24, Russia began its invasion of Ukraine. Relations between these neighboring nations had been complicated in recent years, especially since Moscow annexed the Crimean peninsula in 2014 and decided to support separatist forces in the Donbass region of eastern Ukraine. But what was expected to be a blitzkrieg has dragged on for more than six months.
The Russian forces did not take kyiv, the Ukrainian capital, but in nearby towns, such as Bucha or Irpin, massacres against the civilian population have been reported that could constitute war crimes. After that, the Russian government announced that it would concentrate on taking the south and east of the country.
During this time, the European Union approved six packages of sanctions against Moscow, but these not only impacted the Russian economy, but also the European one, especially due to the increase in gas and oil prices.
What has happened since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine? How long can this conflict that marks current history last? What can happen in a war that is expected to be long? We analyze it in our program with our guests:
– Jordi Solé, MEP of the Group of the Greens/European Free Alliance.
– Javier Nart, MEP for Renew Europe.
