The UN Special Rapporteur for the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Francesca Albanese, has denounced the attack on the Al Mawasi displaced persons camp, west of the city of Khan Yunis, which she described as a “senseless massacre”. At least 71 people have been killed and 289 injured.
“I am horrified by yet another senseless massacre of Palestinian civilians by Israel: 71 dead and nearly 300 injured in an area where Israel itself had ordered them to take refuge,” Albanese said in a message posted on her social media account X.
The Italian rapporteur recalls that “the justification is always the same: ‘attack against Palestinian militants'”. “When will the world stop this machine of death?” she appealed.
The death toll from the military offensive launched by Israel against the Gaza Strip months ago following the attacks of 7 October has now exceeded 38,400, while the number of wounded is approaching 88,500, according to official figures from the Gaza Ministry of Health, controlled by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).
