Ukrainian authorities announced on Thursday that they had sent 1,000 tons of flour to Palestine as part of Israel’s military offensive against the Gaza Strip following the attacks carried out on October 7 by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and other Palestinian factions.
“Palestine has received 1,000 tons of flour under the humanitarian program Grain from Ukraine,” the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said on its account on the social network X, where it specified that “this is the first of three shipments destined for Palestine from Ukraine under this initiative, which will help support more than 101,000 Palestinian families for one month.”
The head of the Ukrainian Presidential Office, Andri Yermak, said on his X account that the initiative was promoted by the country’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, “in cooperation with the World Food Programme (WFP).” “We deliver vital aid to innocent civilians who suffer from food insecurity and are at risk of starvation,” he explained.
“The world knows all too well the devastating effects of Russia’s illegal invasion, which has left 70 million people around the world food insecure,” he argued, adding that “Ukraine has seen first-hand the devastation caused to civilians caught up in the war.”
In this regard, he stressed that “food security is an important point in Zelensky’s Peace Formula.” “Together with our partners, Ukraine continues to work on concrete steps to overcome the food crisis,” Yermak added.
