Ukraine says it is “concerned” about Iran’s “change” regarding its neutrality in the war

The Ukrainian authorities have assured this Thursday that they feel “concerned” about the alleged “change” of Iran regarding its neutrality in the war, after the recent official visit of the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, to the country.

The spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oleg Nikolenko, has assured that Iran would be indirectly justifying the war started by Russia five months ago, the Ukrinform agency reports.

“Since the beginning of the Russian war, Iran has publicly declared a position of neutrality and has advocated a ceasefire and a diplomatic political settlement. In this context, the Ukrainian side is concerned about the change in rhetoric by the Iranian leadership.” Nikolenko said.

According to the spokesman, tolerating “Russia’s aggressive actions” not only encourages them to continue their “aggression” against the Ukrainian people, “but also lays the foundation for destabilizing peace and security in other regions of the world.”

“Any accusation about the alleged preparation of an attack against Russia is unfounded and manipulative. We call on the Iranian side to refrain from statements or steps that fuel Russia’s aggression,” he asked.

Putin’s passage through Iran this week has also been strongly criticized by the adviser to the Presidency of Ukraine, Mijailo Podoliak, who describes it as “contempt” since that same day the Kremlin forces were bombing the city of Kharkiv causing damage to a mosque, among other civil buildings.

“Classic for the Russians. Going to Tehran to bow down to ask Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei for ‘a small weapon for the world’s second largest army’, and at the same time bombing the mosque in Kharkov,” he questioned.

Podoliak has criticized on Twitter that “nothing is sacred for the barbarians” and has wondered if in Iran “they will understand the Kremlin’s gesture of contempt.”
