The President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, has led a meeting this Monday with senior Army commanders after which he has established to continue with defense operations in the city of Bakhmut, one of the main scenarios in which a war of the It’s already its first year.
Those present at that meeting, which included the participation, among others, of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valeri Zaluzhni, and the Prime Minister, Denis Shmigal, addressed “in particular detail” the current situation in Bakhmut, informs the Presidency in a statement.
“They have spoken in favor of continuing the defensive operation and further strengthening the positions in Bakhmut. In addition, the issue of the supply of weapons and equipment, as well as their distribution, was discussed,” the text states.
Bakhmut, in the Donetsk region, has been the scene of intense clashes for weeks. For Russia, which has recently made significant progress by taking the enclaves surrounding the town, the city has a special strategic value, since a large part of the supplies that Ukraine sends to its troops on the eastern front come from there.
In recent days, the Ukrainian Defense Minister, Oleksi Reznikov, went so far as to ensure that the defense of Bakhmut was costing Russia around 500 daily combat casualties. However, the casualty figures for the Russian offensive have not been independently verified.
