Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has approved the imposition of economic sanctions for 50 years on 200 more individuals for their involvement in the Russian invasion of the country. Two advisers to Russian President Vladimir Putin appear on the list.
Specifically, it provides for the embargo of assets, a veto on commercial operations, the suspension of merchandise traffic, flights and other means of transport through Ukrainian territory, a veto on the withdrawal of capital outside the country and the suspension of economic and financial obligations.
The list proposed by the National Security and Defense Council provides for the “application of restrictive measures and other personal economic sanctions” in accordance with document 75/2023, reports the Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform.
Among the names included are those of Yuri Ushakov and Larisa Bricheva, advisers to President Putin, and various managers and officials of Russia’s state nuclear agency, Rosatom. There are also politicians, political analysts, directors of public companies and civil servants.
Among them are the deputy head of the Russian Council of Ministers, Igor Borovkov; the deputy director of the Federal Service for the Surveillance of the Environment, Technology and Nuclear Management, Rostekhnadzor, Alexei Ferapontov; and the director of the Northern Sea Route, Viacheslav Ruksha. There are also several Ukrainian citizens, such as the deputy director general of the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant, Yuri Chernichuk.
The Ukrainian presidential decree mentions the secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksi Danilov as responsible for monitoring the implementation of these sanctions.
It also calls on the Council of Ministers, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the National Bank to guarantee the application and monitoring of these sanctions and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to inform the competent authorities of the EU, the United States and other countries of these sanctions, as well as request the application of similar measures in their respective jurisdictions.
On January 24, Ukraine already imposed sanctions on other Russian personalities, including the Ukrainian politician and billionaire Vadim Novinski or Metropolitan Pavel of the Russian Orthodox Church.
