Ukraine finds two graves in the liberated city of Izium with more than 600 bodies

Ukraine had been showing its concern for days despite the liberation of dozens of towns in the Kharkov region: it feared discoveries such as in Bucha, Irpin or Borodyanka, that devastation and corpses would remain after the departure of the Russian troops. This Friday a grave with 440 bodies was found in Izium, the Ministry of Defense announced in the early hours. Later, on the outskirts, some crosses gave the trail of another.

It was at noon when the details of the second grave, marked with around 200 wooden crosses, emerged. Men dressed in white jumpsuits have begun to exhume the bodies.

Thousands of Russian soldiers fled last weekend from this city, which the president visited a few hours later Volodymyr Zelensky, who remained silent for the fallen, congratulated those responsible for the reconquest and raised the national flag. Zelenski himself has reacted to the news in his last daily message to the nation: “We want the world to know what is really happening and what the occupation has led to. (…) The world must hold Russia responsible for this war” .

Zelenski added that in the next few hours “there should be more clear and verified information.” The investigation focuses on the identity of the people found in the grave and the cause of death of each and every one of them. In some of the towns in the hands of the invader there are corpses of civilians with bullets in the neck and signs of torture.

UN on the way

The Human Rights mission deployed by the UN in Ukraine is already traveling to Izium to verify the information. These observers carried out similar work in Bucha in April.

Meanwhile, the counteroffensive continues. According to Ukrainian officials told the Reuters agency, the Russians are getting stronger and the rate of advance is complicated. To date, they specify, 9,000 square kilometers of territory have been recovered, the size of Cyprus, for example. The Defense Minister, Hanna Maliar, has specified that Ukraine has returned to make 388 localities that welcome 150,000 people its own. Everything from September 6, in just ten days.

These advances have rearmed the morale of the attacked people and reduced that of the attacker, who for the first time points to Vladimir Putin.

Now, the Ukrainian authorities carry out tasks of “stabilization” of the recovered territories in Kharkov, which include the arrest of pro-Russian “traitors” and “collaborators”. kyiv has begun to “thoroughly process information about people who during the temporary occupation cooperated with the aggressors.” The punishment provided for them, established by the Penal Code, is up to ten years in prison.
