July 11 () –
The Ukrainian authorities have denounced on Tuesday a drone attack by Russia against a terminal in the port of Odessa (south) for the export of grain, before adding that two devices have hit an administrative building, an event that has been reported. settled without casualties.
The mayor of Odesa, Oleg Kieper, has indicated in his Telegram account that “the anti-aircraft defense systems have not allowed the enemy plan to attack a grain terminal in one of the ports of Odesa” and has stressed that “the terrorist country ” has attempted “a powerful drone strike” in the area.
“From waters in the Black Sea, the enemy has launched several waves of ‘Shahed-136’ type kamikaze drones,” he said, while confirming the destruction of 22 of these devices. “Due to falling fragments from the downed drones, two terminals near the port, including a grain terminal, have caught fire. The fire has been quickly extinguished, with no critical damage or injuries,” it has settled.
The attack has taken place amid doubts about the next extension of the agreement reached in June 2022 between Ukraine and Russia –mediated by the United Nations and Turkey– for the export of grain from Ukrainian ports due to complaints from Moscow about what it describes as breaches of the clauses relating to the export of Russian fertilizers.
Moscow has warned that the pact will not be extended beyond July 17 if some failures in the agreement have not been corrected by that date, which they consider to benefit Ukraine more since Russian products are not being transported, which has led the secretary UN General, António Guterres, to demand an extension of this “indispensable” pact.
