MADRID Dec. 13 () –

The military authorities of Ukraine have reported this Friday that more than 2,000 of their soldiers have been poisoned, and three of them have died, by chemical substances used by the Russian Armed Forces in the framework of the war, which began at the end of February 2022 by order of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“Since the beginning of the large-scale invasion, more than 2,000 military personnel with varying degrees of poisoning by unknown or known chemical substances have been sent to medical facilities both for military use and to the general medical infrastructure of Ukraine,” they have noted from the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

This has been reported by the person in charge of civil protection of the Department of Radiological, Chemical and Biological Protection of the Ukrainian Army, Artem Vlasiuk, who has stressed that in most of the cases traces of tear gas have been found, such as those usually used by riot police. .

“In three cases we have a medical opinion indicating death as a result of acute poisoning by an unknown chemical substance,” added Vlasiuk, who, however, did not provide further details on the matter, according to information collected by the Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform. .

Finally, Vlasiuk has highlighted that these types of substances are under no circumstances used by Ukrainian troops, since their use is prohibited by the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, of which kyiv is a signatory. Thus, he stressed that the Ukrainian Army “complies with International Law.”

The war in Ukraine broke out at the end of February 2022 after Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the invasion of his neighboring country. Since then, the conflict has progressed without apparent continuity and with the battle front lines practically stagnant for months.
