Ukraine calls pro-Russian referendums in occupied regions a "propaganda show"

Sep. 23 () –

The main adviser to the Presidency of Ukraine, Mijailo Podoliak, has branded the pro-Russian referendums held in the Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia regions – under Russian control – as a “propaganda show” by the Kremlin.

The Ukrainian representative has launched a message on his social networks where he has stressed that during the day this Friday “no legal action called ‘referendum’ is being held in the country.

Thus, he has insisted on focusing “on what is crucial”, which is the “immediate liberation” of the Ukrainian territories occupied by Russia, at the same time that he has pointed to the current votes as a way through which the Kremlin seeks call “recruitment”

The voting process in the referendums of accession to Russia called in the occupied Ukrainian regions has started early this Friday, despite the refusal of Ukraine and the international community to recognize the validity of the process.

Putin himself affirmed on Wednesday in a speech to the nation in which he announced a “partial mobilization” of the population for the war in Ukraine that Moscow would recognize the result of these referendums.

For its part, the Ukrainian Parliament approved on Wednesday the declaration of inadmissibility of the referendums, while NATO has reaffirmed on several occasions that it will not recognize the results of the votes, since “they lack legitimacy” and constitute a violation of the Charter of United Nations.
