The head of the Presidential Office of Ukraine, Andri Yermak, appealed this Monday for “timely” help from the United States to defend the “strategic” city of Kharkiv against the advances of Russian military forces.
Yermak has valued all the aid provided by Washington and the recent package of 60 billion dollars approved in the North American Congress, but has pointed out that it is necessary to receive this aid “as soon as possible.”
“Kharkov is an important strategic city. There are many people left there. We have preserved it and we are going to preserve it, but now the hostilities are very close and the Ukrainians are worried, so it is very important that there is help in time,” he said. Yermak during a meeting with a member of the American Security Council, Michael Carpenter.
Both have addressed the bilateral security agreement and Yermak has highlighted that the true power of the United States and the security documents that the two parties have already signed are taken into account, the Ukrainian Presidency reports in a statement. They have also discussed the Global Peace Summit to be held on June 15 and 16 in Switzerland.
Last Friday, Russian troops crossed the Ukrainian border in the north and managed to take control of several towns as part of a broad military offensive.
