The authorities of Ukraine and Moldova have made a joint appeal on Thursday to accelerate the opening of the negotiations that culminate in their entry as “full-fledged members of the European Union.”
The Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defense of Ukraine, Dimitro Kuleva and Oleksii Reznikov, as well as those of Moldova, Nicu Popescu and Anatolie Nosatii, have participated in the first Black Sea Security Conference, organized by Romania and held in the capital of the country, Bucharest.
“We underline in this statement the importance of both Ukraine and Moldova obtaining this year the opening of accession negotiations to become full member states of the European Union,” they declared.
Likewise, they have revealed their commitment to the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence not only of Ukraine -invaded by Russia in February 2022-, but also of Moldova, a neighboring country and which has denounced threats from Moscow.
The Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Dimitro Kuleba, who has participated in the forum electronically, has insisted that the next summit of the Atlantic Alliance in Vilnius will be “the right time” to “correct past mistakes” and accept in its ranks to Ukraine and Georgia.
For Kuleba, the Atlantic Alliance should draw up a specific accession plan and a safety net for all the countries in the region that may feel threatened by Russia and its president, Vladimir Putin, whom he has branded as a “maniac.”
