The Chief of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oleksandr Sirski, acknowledged this Saturday that the situation on the front “has worsened significantly” in recent days as a result of the Russian offensive.
“The situation on the Eastern Front has worsened significantly in recent days. This is mainly due to the significant intensification of the enemy's offensive actions after the presidential elections in the Russian Federation,” Sirski said in a message posted on his account. on Telegram.
Specifically, Sirski mentioned that Russia “actively attacks our positions in the Limansk and Bakhmut directions” with assault groups supported by armored vehicles. In addition, at the direction of Pokrovski “they are trying to break through our defenses using dozens of tanks and BMP (armored vehicles).”
This offensive has been favored by the hot and dry climate that has allowed the tanks to advance. “Despite significant losses, the enemy is intensifying its efforts by using new units in armored vehicles, thanks to which it periodically achieves tactical successes,” he acknowledged.
Sirski stressed that the objective now is to “stabilize the situation, increase the effectiveness of the actions of our troops and inflict maximum losses on enemy units”, resorting in particular to electronic warfare and air defense.
To stop this offensive, Ukraine needs “technical superiority over the enemy” with “high-tech weapons.” “Only in this way can we defeat the enemy and create the conditions to seize the strategic initiative,” she argued.
Sirski has also indicated the need to “improve the quality of training of military personnel”, mainly infantry units, so that they can take full advantage of the full capabilities of Western military equipment and weapons.
“We are aware of the real scale and degree of the enemy's threat and we are ready to take appropriate and effective measures. We continue the work. Glory to Ukraine!” the text concludes.
