Russia says Ukrainian army ‘unleashing terror’ among Kursk population
September 11 () –
The governments of Russia and Ukraine have accused each other before the UN Security Council of attacking civilians on their respective territories, referring to the latest deadly Russian attacks against the Ukrainian population and the offensive unleashed by kyiv on the Russian region of Kursk.
“It is quite obvious that the killing of civilians and attacks on critical infrastructure are key elements of the Russian military strategy. Such deliberate brutality is aimed, among other things, at intimidating not only Ukraine, but also, for the most part, our partners, in order to prevent decisions that would allow Ukraine to attack Russian territory at long range,” said Ukraine’s representative to the UN, Sergey Kyslytsya.
In this regard, he stressed that the “gangster logic” of Russian President Vladimir Putin is to “beat the victim so brutally that passers-by do not even try to protect him.”
He also expressed concern about North Korea’s use of weapons and recent reports of ballistic missiles being sent from Iran to Russia.
“Putin has already shed so much blood that Russia’s attempts to intimidate the world with ‘red lines’ simply do not work. It is clear that Ukraine’s civilian population will be much better protected if we move our missile sights from above our heads to their launch and storage sites,” the Ukrainian diplomat insisted.
Finally, he said that Ukraine “really wants to end” the conflict while trying to “save its people and its state, while Russia “does not want peace and is obsessed with territorial conquests.”
Russia’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Vasili Nebenzia, said that “Ukrainian thugs” had unleashed “genuine terror against the civilian population” in their invasion of Kursk.
“Recently, horrific evidence has come to light that Ukrainian Nazis shot three children aged between 10 and 12 in the village of Malaya Loknya. Media broadcast footage of the massacre by the Banderites of elderly people from this residential area, who had gathered in the square for evacuation. In total, about 10 people were killed in Malaya Loknya. Ukrainian militants are abducting civilians who did not have a chance to evacuate,” he added.
Referring to Russian attacks against civilians, Nebenzia said that these were “failures of the Ukrainian air defence” and not “targeted Russian attacks”, after which he criticised the silence on alleged Ukrainian war crimes.
He also explained that the latest Russian attacks have targeted a “military educational institution in Poltava where radar and electronic warfare specialists were trained” and a “hotel in Kryvyi Rih where officers of the Ukrainian intelligence services resided”, as well as airfields, weapons and ammunition arsenals or drone factories, among other infrastructures related to the military industry.
He also accused Western countries of being involved “up to their necks” in the conflict, referring to the alleged “sudden disappearance of high-ranking American, British, French, Polish and Swedish military personnel” following the latest Russian bombings.
“We are seeing more and more citizens of Western countries among those dying in Ukraine, which only confirms that the West is ‘up to its ears’ in the Ukrainian conflict and is now making incredible efforts to ensure that the Zelensky regime can stay afloat at least for some time,” he added.
