British Government sources have reported that they are going to evacuate their embassy in Sudan “as soon as possible” due to the chaotic situation that is currently taking place in the capital, Khartoum, where the ceasefire was declared this Friday by the Army and paramilitaries of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has been cracking in recent hours.
UK military troops and aircraft have been transferred to an overseas base to prepare for what would be a high-risk rescue mission in an active conflict zone, should the order be given, it has reported. the Sky News television network.
The number of staff at this embassy is small, less than a dozen, so they are advising other British citizens to stay home and take shelter, as any evacuation would be very limited in size.
Saudi Arabia announced on Saturday the evacuation of 91 citizens and 66 foreign nationals from Sudan while the Jordanian government also confirmed the start of preparations to remove 300 of its citizens from the African country.
The Sudanese Army announced this Friday that it accepts the three-day truce offered by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the occasion of the end of Ramadan, but a few hours after this announcement both combatants returned to accuse each other of violating the announced truce.
