Advocates for agreeing on the reduction of working hours with the CEOE to guarantee its approval in the Cortes
June 22 () –
The general secretary of UGT, Pepe Álvarez, has positively valued the 2.5% salary increase in 2024 for civil servants since it allows progress in order to end the precarious situation of the public administration.
The union representative has thus criticized other union organizations such as CSIF, which have shown their rejection of this increase, and has indicated that this union “disqualifies itself”, since it disassociates itself from an agreement that will allow it to be maintained. purchasing power this year among public employees.
“We cannot always focus on what happened at other times and not be able to improve the working and salary conditions of public employees on a day-to-day basis,” Álvarez stated in an interview this Saturday on RTVE’s 24 Horas channel. collected by Europa Press.
Along the same lines, the UGT leader has advocated advancing on other points of the 2022 agreement, and not only on salary matters, betting on making the replacement rate disappear, which is the root of the problems of precariousness and temporality in public administration, or to close the partial retirement agreement before the summer.
The general secretary has also referred to the 2024 Public Employment Offer (OEP) proposed by the Ministry for Digital Transformation and the Public Service, which consists of a total of 40,121 positions.
Although he has pointed out that, “with all certainty”, these 40,000 new places are not going to cover all the needs, since in 24 hours the problems of the public service in Spain for decades will not be solved, the offer supposes ” a very important step forward” from the point of view of stabilizing public procurement.
“The public administration is aging. With these agreements and the previous ones, we are going to follow a line that will allow us to repeal the replacement rate and for the administrations to call each year the necessary positions so as not to have the accumulation that we have at the moment “, he stated.
Thus, he has called it a big mistake that this offer is not positively valued since there has not been such an important call in history. “It is essential that we value them,” she said.
REDUCTION OF THE WORKING HOUR, BY THE HAND OF THE CEOE
Asked about the negotiation to reduce the working day, which will resume this coming Monday, the general secretary of UGT has been in favor of closing an agreement “in positive terms” this month and in which the CEOE is present.
For Álvarez, reaching a three-way agreement, with the employers and the Government, makes it possible to guarantee an approval process in the Cortes Generales without difficulties, since the agreed and agreed reforms “are those that last a lifetime.”
