Uganda Army chief demands arrest of opposition leader 'Bobi Wine' after "jokingly" threatening to behead him

MADRID Jan. 6 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The head of the Ugandan Army – and son of the president, Yoweri Museveni – General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has demanded that the Police arrest opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, known as ‘Bobi Wine’, after “jokingly” threatening to behead him in a message published on his social network account X.

Kyagulanyi is one of the best-known faces of the opposition to the Ugandan president, who has been in power since 1986, and faced him in the elections held in January 2021.

“Kabobi knows that the only person who protects him from me is my father,” the general declared in a message that was later deleted, using a pejorative nickname for the opposition leader. “If he wasn’t there, I would cut off his head today,” he added.

Although the general later declared that the message was not serious and that he was simply “a person passionate about peace and war” — “I hope you will forgive me for my mistakes,” he added. The opposition leader replied in X to assure that the general’s threat “is not something that can be taken lightly,” given “the large number of deaths that he and his father have caused.”

“I refuse to be intimidated by this cowardly regime. The world is watching,” added ‘Bobi Wine’.

Finally, the general ended up dedicating another series of insults against Kyagulanyi, whom he described as “a lumpen, an illegal, a criminal who is not and never was qualified to run for the high office of president of Uganda” before demanding that the Police his arrest. “Police, arrest Kabobi immediately and bring him to me,” the soldier concluded.
