Ubisoft and Riot Games team up to detect harmful interactions in video game chats thanks to Zero Harm in Comms

Ubisoft Y Riot Games have announced the Zero Harm in Comms research project, a collaboration with which they seek to improve the reach of their solutions based on artificial intelligence (AI) to detect toxic content in game chat interactions.

Both companies are going to create a shared database and a tagging ecosystem capable of collecting ‘in-game’ data, which will help them train different preventive moderation tools to reduce inappropriate behaviors.

Video game developers are aware that it is necessary to create video game structures that encourage satisfying social experiences in order to avoid harmful interactions for users.

For this reason, Ubisoft and Riot Games, which are part of the so-called Fair Play Alliance, they have created a research project called Zero Harm in Comms, Focused on reducing negative or harmful content in video game chats. With this initiative, they hope to lay the necessary technological foundations for future industry collaborations.

Likewise, they hope to create a reference framework that guarantees the ethics and privacy of this proposal, with the aim of “create safe communities and promote positive experiences in virtual spaces, as commented by the director of technological research at Riot Games.

For his part, the executive director of Ubisoft La Forge, Yves Jacquier, has commented that this project will show “how to even better avoid toxicity in games” and will allow the company to establish “a direct link” to their communities.

Although Zero Harm in Comms is still in its early stages, both developers believe that the project will benefit the entire gaming community in the future. In addition, they have announced that they will share the learnings of this initial phase of the experiment with the rest of the industry.
