For their part, driver partners have the option to activate or deactivate this option when they want to receive trips with pets and regarding the price, Uber reported that this will increase to the same extent as UberX when making a reservation.
Driver partners have already received notification of the product to the driver partners according to the company, a good reception of the service is expected, due to the more relevant role that pets have occupied in families.
According to the company, the alternative is designed to allow travel with only one pet, but it also stressed that if the user has more pets, the user can coordinate with the driver partner to see if he or she accepts the trip.
How should pets travel in the vehicle?
Regarding the type of pets and their size, Uber stressed that this option is focused on domestic animals, such as dogs and cats; however, the company recommended that users bring a towel or blanket to protect the vehicle seats and that driver partners have the right to refuse trips with animals that they consider unsafe.
Regarding whether the pet should be caged or not, the company pointed out that local regulations must be followed for its transport. In the case of Mexico City, traffic regulations stipulate that they must be in the back seat and secured with a leash or harness that keeps them in one place.
In the event that the animal soils the vehicle considerably or where urine, feces, vomit or damage are involved, the user would have to pay a cleaning fee established through the terms and conditions of use of the application.
The company also stressed that during trips, the only beneficiaries of the insurance included in the app when using the platform are people and not pets, so in the event of an accident they will not be protected.
Mexico will be the fifth Latin American market where Uber Pet will be available, after Brazil, Chile, Ecuador and Colombia. It is worth noting that in the country, the pet industry is worth approximately 74 billion pesos.
