UACh and Workers Union sign collective agreement

In a vote held today, Thursday, September 1, 670 workers accepted the University’s proposal (62.44%).

The new collective bargaining agreement has a duration of 3 years, from September 1, 2022 to August 31, 2025.

The Austral University of Chile and the National Workers’ Union No. 1 signed, this Thursday, September 1, the Collective Labor Agreement after the vote that approved accepting the latest proposal.

The act was carried out in the Central House of this house of studies, with the participation of the two negotiating commissions. On behalf of the UACh, the Rector, Dr. Hans Richter, the Prof. Sandra Bucarey, the Vice-Rector for Economic and Administrative Management, Dr. Felipe Zúñiga, the Dean of the Faculty of Legal and Social Sciences, Dr. Juan Andrés Varas, the Director of Personnel (S), Felipe Sanhueza and the Legal Director, Alejandro Durán.

Representing the Workers’ Union, its President, Susana Flores, attended along with the members of its Board of Directors, Maribel Villanueva, Marianne Loyola and Carlos Mancilla.

The Rector of the UACh, Dr. Hans Richter, pointed out that “throughout this negotiation process we have been concerned with giving an adequate response to union demands, responsibly safeguarding the financial sustainability of the University. I would like to sincerely thank the good disposition of the Trade Union Board and the loyalty they have shown towards the institution throughout this process, a spirit that we hope will continue in future negotiations.

What matters here is that our community manages to resolve this challenge in a permanent and constructive dialogue, something that was maintained at all times with the Workers Union”.

In turn, the President of the Workers’ Union, Susana Flores, indicated that “we believe that this process that spanned 32 days is relevant to the community in general and to the University, because we were all gathered together for our interests as an assembly and we were able to , at the same time, reflect on the table before the Rectory the needs of this assembly. Today ends a sweet and sour process, which was hard, which took place in the conditions presented by inflation worldwide, but we were able to reach an agreement that leaves us happy and that also leaves us with a commitment to improve relations between authority and workers.

Collective agreement

The new collective bargaining agreement will be in force from September 1, 2022 to August 31, 2025 and benefits 1,073 partners.

It establishes, among other aspects, remuneration and minimum income; allowances and bonuses; institutional benefits; union development; staff evolution and development; a bipartite commission that will review compliance with the collective contract; and a special bonus for the extraordinary expenses that the workers have had to incur due to the collective bargaining process and the extensions produced by the qualification of the minimum services.

Regarding readjustment, this collective agreement ensures that the University’s workers will maintain their purchasing power in a consensual formula that satisfies the parties in the current adverse macroeconomic context.
