Two Spanish citizens, investigated for the alleged preparation of a failed terrorist act in Lithuania

Two Spanish citizens are being investigated by the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Lithuania for the alleged authorship of a failed terrorist act in that Baltic country, as reported this Tuesday by said institution.

The events supposedly occurred last September, when the two Spaniards were arrested in Rigathe capital of neighboring Latvia, by the State Security Service.

According to the preliminary investigation, the two suspects traveled to the city of Siauliai, in the north of the country, with the intention of starting a fire at the production facilities of a private company, as well as burning equipment located outside, according to the statement, which did not provide further details.

However, the suspects “They neither managed to implement their criminal plan nor hide from law enforcement.”“said the Prosecutor’s Office.

Thanks to the cooperation with the Latvian authorities, the two Spaniards were apprehended by agents of the Latvian secret services in Riga and extradited to Lithuania in accordance with a European arrest warrant.

They are currently detained in preventive detention, while the preliminary investigation is carried out under article 250 on terrorism of the Lithuanian Penal Code.

“More detailed information will be provided once this cannot jeopardize the success of the ongoing investigation“said the Prosecutor’s Office in its statement.
