The Kosovo Police reported this Friday that at least two people of Serb origin, one of them a child under eleven years of age, have been injured by several shots fired by an armed man in southern Kosovo.
Defense Minister Armend Mehaj has indicated that the suspect, who has been arrested, is a 33-year-old man who has been identified as AK and has explained that the second injured person is a 21-year-old, a relative of the minor.
Both have been injured after the suspect opened fire on them from a speeding vehicle near Strpce, according to the Balkan Insight news portal. The victims have been identified as Stefan and Milos Stojanovic.
Mehaj, who has conveyed his “deepest regret for what happened” and has wished a speedy recovery to the injured, has indicated that an agent of the Kosovar forces would have been involved in the incident.
The injured have been transferred to the Gracanica hospital, where they have undergone emergency surgery. The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has condemned the shooting and has stated that the incident “is in the hands of the authorities, who have already opened an investigation” in this regard.
“I want to guarantee to all citizens that the Kosovo Police is committed to its work to protect the lives and property of all citizens, without distinction,” he said.
However, the Serbian Prime Minister, Ana Brnabic, has lamented that “even on the holy night for the Orthodox, the Serbs are not safe in Kosovo.” “I condemn this crime in the highest possible terms and ask the international community to intervene immediately to bring the guilty to justice,” she asserted.
