28 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –
At least two members of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have been killed and three others have been injured in a bomb attack against their vehicle in the province of Raqqa (north), as reported by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
The body, based in London and informants in the Arab country, has indicated that the attack, carried out on the road that connects Hazima and Raqqa, would have been perpetrated by the jihadist group Islamic State, although for now there is no claim of responsibility. .
The SDF is led by the Syrian Kurdish Popular Protection Units (YPG) militia and is supported by the US-led coalition, which this week has pointed to a “dramatic decline” in Islamic State attacks in Iraq and Syria so far this year.
The commander of the ‘Inherent Resolution’ operation, Matthew McFarlane stressed that the jihadist group “continues to be defeated militarily and does not control any territory”, although he has acknowledged that “the ideology of the Islamic State continues without restrictions and is active, seeking to reconstitute itself and restart its hate campaign in this region and around the world”.
