Two people killed in Russian attack on village in Ukraine's Sumi province

At least two people were killed on Thursday in an attack by the Russian army against the Ukrainian town of Krasnopilsk, located in the province of Sumi (northeast), according to Ukrainian authorities, amid an increase in attacks against this area of ​​the country.

The provincial authorities said in a message on their Facebook account that the attack on Kranopilsk had left two more people injured, adding that Russia had also launched attacks on seven other cities, including the provincial capital, Sumi.

Meanwhile, the governor of Zaporizhia province (east), Ivan Fedorov, has confirmed the death of a 74-year-old woman in an attack carried out on Wednesday by Russian troops against the provincial capital, Zaporizhia.

Zaporizhia, along with Kherson, Luhansk and Donetsk, all partially occupied during the invasion – and Donetsk and Luhansk the centre of a conflict with the Ukrainian army since 2014 – were annexed by Russia in October 2022, a measure not recognised by the international community that followed Moscow’s annexation of the Crimean peninsula in 2014.
