Two people killed in new Russian military attacks in Ukraine’s Donetsk province

Moscow claims to have shot down more than 35 drones launched by the Ukrainian Armed Forces against its territory

At least two people have died and twelve others have been injured as a result of the series of attacks carried out by the Russian Army against towns in the Ukrainian province of Donetsk, located in the east of the country and partially occupied, as reported this Monday by the Ukrainian authorities.

Donetsk Governor Vadim Filashkin said in a statement posted on his Facebook account that the attacks were carried out on Sunday and denounced that “Russia is killing civilians,” without giving further details about the towns attacked.

Donetsk, along with Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia, all of them partially occupied in the framework of the invasion – and in the case of Donetsk and Luhansk, the scene of a conflict between pro-Russian separatists and the Ukrainian army since 2014 – was annexed in October 2022 by Russia, a measure not recognized by the international community that was added to the annexation in 2014 of the Crimean peninsula.

The Russian Ministry of Defense has said it has shot down more than 35 drones launched by the Ukrainian army against its territory, in what it has described as “attempts by the Kiev regime to carry out terrorist attacks using unmanned aerial vehicles.”

In a brief statement published on its Telegram account, the air defence systems have destroyed 18 drones over the territory of the Bryansk region, nine over the territory of the Kirsk region and another nine over the territory of the Belgorod region.
