Two killed in Israeli drone strike on Lebanon border

14 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

At least two people were killed on Saturday as a result of an Israeli drone attack on the vehicle in which they were travelling between Nabatiyé and Marjeyoun, near the town of Deir Mimas, on the border with Lebanon.

The two victims have been identified as Moussa Sleimane and Nagib Halaoui. The former was a member of the Amal Movement, a party allied to Hezbollah, while the latter is the son of Mohammad Halaoui, a Hezbollah fighter killed in an Israeli attack in October 2023, according to the newspaper ‘L’orient le jour’.

The Israeli army said the victims were “two Hezbollah terrorists who were preparing to launch projectiles towards Israeli territory in the Deir Mimas region.”

In response, Hezbollah fired a dozen rockets at the Israeli town of Kiryat Shemona. Saturday was also marked by several Israeli strikes against several towns in southern Lebanon, including Markaba, Rab el Talatine and Aita el Chaab.

Clashes on the border between Hezbollah and Israeli security forces have intensified since the start of the military offensive on the Gaza Strip in October last year. Since then, at least 490 people have been killed in Lebanon, including 370 Hezbollah members, while on the Israeli side around 30 civilians have been killed, half of them soldiers.
