Two killed and two wounded by a Russian artillery attack on Kherson

At least two people have died this Tuesday in an artillery attack carried out by the Russian Army against the Ukrainian city of Kherson, capital of the province of the same name (south), as denounced by the Ukrainian authorities.

The General Prosecutor of Ukraine has indicated in a message on its Telegram account that the attack was perpetrated around 6:00 local time and has detailed that two people have died and two others have been injuredalthough they are out of danger.

He has also stressed that several residential buildings have been damaged in the attack and has pointed out that the authorities “are working on the scene to document another war crime committed by Russian military personnel.

“Under the leadership of the Kherson District Prosecutor’s Office, a preliminary investigation has been opened for a violation of the laws and rules of waras well as for murder, in line with article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine,” he added.

“Three dead. 21 injured. Four are still in hospitals as a result of yesterday’s enemy attack. My condolences to all the relatives, friends and loved ones of the victims,” said Lisenko, who stressed that the event “will never be forgiven“.

Zelensky calls for reinforcements

The Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelensky, asked again this Monday more air defenses to securely protect the entire Ukrainian territory, after the drone attack on Sumi.

“Unfortunately, our State still does not have enough quality air defense systems to protect all of our territory and shoot down all enemy targets“Zelensky said in his address to the nation last night.

Zelensky added that “the enemy takes advantage” of it, and pledged to “do everything possible and impossible to make our air defense system stronger.”

While the Ukrainian Air Force is capable of shooting down almost all of the drones and missiles that Russia fires at Kiev, where Ukraine has concentrated the best defensive systems received from the West, many of the missiles that Russian forces fire at other areas they cannot be intercepted.

“The goal is for the Ukrainian air shield to be able to protect our entire territory from Russian terror and in the future to become the basis for the European air shield,” Zelensky said of his efforts to their partners send more modern protection systems to Ukraine.

According to the head of the Sumi Military Administration, Dmitro Zhevitsky, the anti-aircraft alarms that announce the possibility of attacks did not sound when the Shahed drones that caused Monday’s tragedy were flying into the city.

“This tragedy could and should have been avoided,” Zhevitsky said of what happened, which seems to show the shortcomings of Ukrainian anti-aircraft systems in some particularly exposed regions such as Sumi, which is located near the border with Russia.
