18 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –
Two Israelis have been injured this Tuesday after being shot in the Sheikh Jarrá neighborhood in East Jerusalem, as confirmed by the authorities, who suspect that it may be a terrorist attack.
The victims are two men, aged 48 and 50, who were shot in their vehicle when they were leaving the Tomb of Simeon the Just. The suspect has managed to flee and is being sought by security forces.
The Police have found the weapon used in the attack and have specified that it is a homemade ‘Carlo’ submachine gun, as reported by the Israeli newspaper ‘Haaretz’.
The Tomb of Simon the Just is located in the settlement –of the same name– of Shimon HaTzadik, located in Sheikh Jarrá and where settlers have been occupying homes since the beginning of the 21st century. The neighborhood has been the epicenter of tensions in recent years over plans to expel Palestinian residents from the area.
