June 30 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed on Saturday the death of two soldiers during an operation in the Shejaiya neighborhood of Gaza City, as part of the invasion unleashed after the October 7 attacks perpetrated by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).
The Army has indicated in a statement on its website that the deceased are Sergeant Yair Avitan, member of the Parachute Brigade, from Ra’anana, and Sergeant First Class Yakir Shmuel Tatelbaum, member of the Armored Brigade, from Ma’ ale Adumim.
The young people were 20 and 21 years old respectively and died on Friday in separate incidents in Shejaiya, in Gaza City, where the Israeli Army launched a new operation a day earlier in which it claimed to have located a weapons warehouse in a school, in addition of having killed “numerous terrorists”.
The announcement of these deaths comes after the Al Quds Brigades, the armed wing of Islamic Jihad, reported on Friday that they had attacked Israeli soldiers the day before with a bomb placed in Shejaiya. Specifically, they claimed to have launched a mortar shell at a concentration of Israeli military vehicles that entered the neighborhood.
According to the Israeli Army, there are already 318 soldiers killed as a result of the ground offensive in the Gaza Strip.
