MADRID 14 Nov. () –
The two environmental activists from the environmental defense organization Just Stop Oil who sprayed orange paint on the megalithic monument of Stonehenge, located in the United Kingdom, in June were charged this Thursday with “destroying or damaging protected historical monuments.”
This has been reported by the United Kingdom Prosecutor’s Office, which has indicated that the accused are Rajan Naidu, 73, and Niamh Lynch, 22, as reported by British media.
The two activists – who sought with their actions to achieve a commitment from the Government to reach an international agreement that “puts an end to the extraction and burning of oil, gas and coal by 2030” – will be tried on December 13 by the Salisbury Magistrates Court.
His action was vindicated by Just Stop Oil, which demands an end to the exploitation of fossil fuels. Known for their spectacular and controversial actions, the group nevertheless specified that they had used powder paint made with corn starch so as not to damage the place.
