In 2024, four of the six Fifth Generation (5G) road infrastructure projects have entered the construction phase. These projects, which total 1,012 kilometers of roads in various regions, have received a positive response from financial entities, which has allowed complete financial closings for a total amount of $8.9 billion, according to the National Infrastructure Agency (ANI).

Projects under construction
Of the six 5G projects underway, four have begun their construction phase in 2024. These are the following:
New Road Network of Valle del Cauca: Cali-Palmira Access Corridor
This project contemplates the construction, rehabilitation and improvement of 310 kilometers of highway that connect the city of Cali, in Valle del Cauca, with Santander de Quilichao, in Cauca. This road is of special importance to improve mobility and facilitate the transportation of goods and people between Valle del Cauca and the interior of the country.
New Road Network of Valle del Cauca: Buenaventura-Loboguerrero-Buga Corridor
This 128-kilometer corridor focuses on improving road infrastructure in the port area of Buenaventura, one of the main seaports in Colombia. This project seeks to optimize transportation routes between the port and the main cities of the country. The improvement of this route will contribute to increasing trade efficiency and Colombia’s competitiveness in international markets.

Magdalena Trunk 1: Puerto Salgar – Barrancabermeja
With a length of 260 kilometers, this trunk connects the municipalities of Puerto Salgar (Cundinamarca) and Barrancabermeja (Santander). The investment in this project is $4.91 billion. The improvement of this road is strategic for mobility in the center and north of the country, benefiting 800,000 people in the departments of Santander, Norte de Santander, Cesar, Cundinamarca and Boyacá. It is estimated that this project will generate more than 100,000 direct, indirect and induced jobs, which will have a positive impact on the local economy.
Magdalena Trunk 2: Sabana de Torres – Curumaní
This 268-kilometer-long project connects Sabana de Torres (Santander) with Curumaní (Cesar) and is expected to have an investment of $4.75 billion. The Magdalena Trunk 2, like its counterpart 1, aims to improve connectivity between the Caribbean regions and the interior of the country, which will allow a more efficient flow of goods and people. In addition, it is projected that it will contribute to the reduction of transportation costs and improve the competitiveness of surrounding areas.
Projects in preconstruction phase
Meanwhile, the other two projects that are part of the 5G strategy are in the preconstruction stage. In this phase, the necessary procedures are carried out to obtain environmental approvals and to refine the technical designs that will guarantee the correct execution of the works. These projects are estimated to begin their construction phase in the first half of 2025:
Longitudinal Avenue of the West South Section (ALO South)
The ALO Sur project includes the intervention of 24.5 kilometers of road between Chusacá (Soacha) and Calle 13 in Fontibón, south of Bogotá. This work aims to improve connectivity between the south of Bogotá and the main access roads to the capital, facilitating traffic and improving road safety conditions.

North Access Phase II
This project will focus on the expansion of the North Highway between streets 192 and 245, Carrera Séptima between streets 201 and 245, and the Sopó Perimetral, improving northern access to Bogotá. This work is key to guaranteeing more fluid circulation in the north of the city and improving the connection between Bogotá and other regions of the country. In addition, the expansion of these accesses will alleviate traffic congestion, which will benefit both residents and travelers who use these roads.
