Twitter updates its #SearchHelp alert service with information from the 024 Hotline for suicidal behavior

Twitter has updated its #SearchHelp alert service with a new section dedicated to mental health, which offers information on this topic to those who carry out searches related to it on the platform.

#SearchHelp is a notification service on Twitter that offers contact and emergency information on highly sensitive issues, such as gender-based violence or suicide, and encourages users to seek help when they need it.

On the occasion of the celebration of world mental health daywhich takes place this Monday, October 10, Twitter has updated this system and has integrated a help area related to mental health.

In this way, when a person types a term associated with suicide or self-harm in the search engine, they will see a notification in the results section, located at the top of the resultsas if it were a pinned ‘tweet’.

This alert encourages users to seek help by calling the line 024 attention to suicidal behavior. Managed by the Ministry of Health, it is free and confidential, and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

“It is a call to hope and life for those people whose suffering takes them to the limit of their strength“, commented the Minister of Health of the Government of Spain, Carolina Darias, who has recognized that “digital platforms such as Twitter are a key tool to continue improving mental health”.

From the company they believe that the social network has “a role a responsibility to help ensure that the people of Spain can access and receive assistance when they need it most”, in the words of the director of Public Policy and Philasthropy on Twitter Spain, Camino Rojo.

Along with this help ‘hashtag’, Twitter has reminded that it has a form special so that users can report cases of other people with suicidal thoughtsas well as a specialized team in charge of reviewing all alerts.

After receiving notice that a specific person has an idea of ​​harming or ending their life, this group of professionals contacts them and lets them know that someone who cares about their integrity identified who might be at risk.

On the other hand, he recalled that there is a dedicated section in the Help Center which includes a series of procedures regarding content associated with mental health problems on the platform.

Among them, indications that other users may be in a vulnerable situation (based on the publications they make or which they comment on) and how manage experiences with self-harm or suicidal thoughts.
