They also laid off workers from the teams tasked with disinformation policy, global appeals and state media on the platform, the report added.

Twitter’s vice president of trust and safety, Ella Irwin, confirmed to Reuters that Twitter made some cuts to the trust and safety team on Friday night, but gave no details.

“We have thousands of people within Trust and Safety who work in content moderation and we have not cut back on the teams that do that work on a daily basis,” he said by email. Some of the cuts, she added, were in areas that lacked sufficient volume or where it made sense to consolidate.

Twitter laid off about 3,700 employees in early November to cut costs, and hundreds more have since quit.
