Misinformation, a problem that was put aside on Twitter

After the acquisition of Twitter by Elon Musk, the social network made a change of approach regarding the way in which they combated misinformation, since many of the employees focused on this area were fired and Community Notes was implemented, a measure based on in community contributions to report false or misleading content.

It launched globally around the world, but until the beginning of this year it began accepting contributions from various countries and throughout the year has added new features, such as allowing context to be added to a tweet.

However, the measure has not been enough to assuage the concerns of regulators. A few days ago, Thierry Breton, European Commissioner for the Internal Market and Services, denounced that Twitter abandoned the voluntary Code of Practice against disinformation of the European Union.

Likewise, he stressed that at least in that region, the fight against disinformation cannot be addressed through the contributions of his community, but that it will be the obligation of the platform as of August 25, according to the Digital Services Law.
