MADRID 12 Oct. () –
The Turkish authorities announced this Saturday the “neutralization” of two alleged members of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) in new attacks in northern Syria, without the group having commented for now on these operations.
“Our heroic Turkish Armed Forces have neutralized two PKK/YPG terrorists whom they detected in the regions of Operation Euphrates Shield and Peace Spring in northern Syria,” the Turkish Ministry of Defense reported in a statement, referring to to the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), which Turkey considers the parent organization of the YPG.
“We continue the fight against terrorism and terrorists with all our strength for our beloved homeland!” continues the military statement, published on the X social network.
Ankara uses the term “neutralized” to mean that the suspect has died, been injured or has surrendered to security forces, without further details about the case for now.
Since the PKK took up arms in 1984 to demand independence in the Kurdish-majority southeast of Turkey, more than 40,000 people have lost their lives in violence. Now the Turkish military operation extends to northern Iraq and northern and northeastern Syria.
