The Turkish authorities announced this Monday the “neutralization” of two alleged senior officials of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the framework of a new operation carried out in the province of Batman, located in the southeast of the country, against this group, considered terrorist by Ankara.
The Turkish Interior Minister, Ali Yerlikaya, has indicated in a statement published on his account on the social network red of people wanted by the Government of Turkey.
Thus, he has detailed that both have been “neutralized” in the surroundings of the town of Gercus and has stressed that they were involved in nine “terrorist acts” that resulted in the death of six security force agents and another 19 wounded. .
On the other hand, he highlighted that eleven “terrorists” have been “neutralized” in the nine days of operations launched after the start of the Eid al Adha festival – the Festival of Sacrifice, one of the most important for Muslims – and added that the authorities “will not stop or hesitate until the last terrorist is neutralized.”
Turkish authorities use the term “neutralized” to refer to dead or captured suspects. The Turkish Army usually carries out military operations against the PKK in the east of the country and in the semi-autonomous region of Iraqi Kurdistan – where the formation has numerous bases – since the ceasefire between the Government and the armed group in July 2015.
