MADRID Dec. 30 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Turkish Ministry of Defense reported this Monday that it has “neutralized” eleven members of the Kurdish separatist group Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in attacks in Syria and Iraq.
“Our heroic Turkish Armed Forces have neutralized ten PKK/YPG (People’s Protection Units) terrorists they identified in the Euphrates Shield region of northern Syria and one PKK terrorist they identified in the Operation Shutdown region. Garra, in northern Iraq,” the Ministry has published on its X account.
“We continue with unpredictable, unconventional, rapid and sustained operations to eliminate terrorism at its source,” added the Ministry. The message has been published on
On the other hand, the official Turkish news agency, Anatolia, has reported fighting between the Syrian National Army – ENS, pro-Turkish militias – and members of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) on the outskirts of Manbij in an area taken by the ENS on December 9.
The Turkish Army has carried out dozens of bombings against the PKK in Iraq, where the group has bases, especially in the Kandil area, since the ceasefire between the Government and the armed group, considered by Ankara as a terrorist organization.
Media related to the YPG have reported that since the entry of the pro-Turkish militias into the city there have been “murders, extortion and looting on a daily basis.”
The Turkish authorities, which have also launched several military operations against the Syrian Kurdish militia People’s Protection Units (YPG) – linked to the PKK – are supporting the offensive of several rebel groups against the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), led by said Kurdish group, after the fall of Bashar al Assad’s regime in Syria on December 8.
