MADRID 28 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Turkish authorities reported this Monday that they have carried out new attacks against positions of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which Ankara considers a terrorist group, in areas of Syria and Iraq.
In this sense, the Turkish Ministry of Defense has indicated that this is the fifth day of attacks in these areas since the attack against the capital took place last week, where five deaths and more than twenty were injured.
“We are strong, we are determined! Our heroic Turkish Armed Forces neutralized 14 PKK/YPG terrorists within the framework of operations Euphrates Shield and Peace Spring. We continue the fight against terrorism and terrorists with all our forces our beloved homeland,” the Ministry stated in a message broadcast through its account on the social network X.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (OSDH) and Kurdish activists have confirmed attacks in northern Syria and have warned that their target was several infrastructures near the city of Hasaka. Likewise, the Government has confirmed the “neutralization of 23 terrorists in Iraq.”
The PKK, banned as a terrorist organization in Turkey, the European Union and the United States, has been fighting the Turkish state since the 1980s. Its headquarters are in the Qandil mountains in northern Iraq. On October 25, the group claimed responsibility for the attack against the main facilities of the Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) company in the Turkish capital.
The Turkish Army usually carries out military operations against the group in Iraq – where the group has numerous bases – and in Syria since the ceasefire between the Government and the armed group was broken in July 2015. The Forces Syrian Democratic Forces, supported by the US-led coalition, are led by the Kurdish militia People’s Protection Units (YPG), with ties to the PKK.
